| The Millennium
Tree is in Curridge Playground. It was provided by Curridge Horticultural
Society and planted on June 18th 2000 by Frank Mitchell, their President.
The tree is a Sequoiadendron Gigantium (Giant Redwood) which in time will
grow very large. This type of tree originally came from North America
and is named after Sequoyah, Cherokee half-breed of Georgia, who invented
the Cherokee alphabet. There were some anxious moments during a dry spell
in 2000, but the tree is now established and growing well. |
