The Millennium Tree

The Millennium Tree is in Curridge Playground. It was provided by Curridge Horticultural Society and planted on June 18th 2000 by Frank Mitchell, their President. The tree is a Sequoiadendron Gigantium (Giant Redwood) which in time will grow very large. This type of tree originally came from North America and is named after Sequoyah, Cherokee half-breed of Georgia, who invented the Cherokee alphabet. There were some anxious moments during a dry spell in 2000, but the tree is now established and growing well.
