Berkshire Carers Service

Formerly known as the Princess Royal Trust for Carers we provide free support to anyone, child or adult, looking after someone disabled, ill, with addiction issues or age-related frailty.

Our services are advocacy, information & advice, carers’ grants, activities for young carers, support groups, and administration of an emergency respite scheme. We also campaign actively for carers’ rights. Recent campaigns have included carers’ allowance and carers’ assessments. 48 different support groups run across the County giving carers an opportunity to share experiences, have time away from caring and meet new people. Most of these are run by former carers with first-hand experience of caring at different stages.

Anyone needing support who is an unpaid carer can telephone our freephone 0800 988 5462 or email helpline@berkshirecarers.org. Our two websites provide links and information: www.berkshirecarers.org (adults) and www.chillberkshire.org

Residents can sign up to receive our quarterly newsletter in the post or by email.

Our newly launched children’s free activities programme, CHILL, kicks off on 8th August. Any young carer can register to attend freely and a travel grant is available for low income families or families where complex care arrangements need to be made. Activities are open to 11-13 year olds.
