Speed Awareness Group

Speeding in the village. Speedwatch and active signs.

Do you think that we have a speeding problem in our village? What can you do to help?

Over the last two years we have been running Community Speedwatch sessions in the village. These sessions have two objectives: 1, to raise visibility of concerns about speeding on our roads and 2, to record vehicles travelling over the speed limit and passing their details to the police for further action.

Chieveley Parish has recently purchased two active speed signs (Smiley Face) which we can deploy in agreed places around the village.  These signs collect the speed data, in both directions, of the vehicles passing the sign. This data is essential to obtain further support from West Berks and Thames Valley Police to control speeding in our village.

What can you do to help?

1. Write to or email West Berks and our Parish Council to express your concern about speeding in our village.

2. Help with a Speedwatch session after completing some straightforward online training. We generally do 1 hour sessions and if you were to do one or two sessions every six months that would be a great help.

3. Help with deployment of the active speed signs. Moving them or recharging the battery. Again, this would require completion of the online training.
